the world's largest Open Source collaborative developmentenvironment and download repository of Open Source applications, hasfurther enhanced its site design to improve both the functionality andusability. Since deployment of the first phase of site enhancements on lastNovember, SourceForge.net monthly traffic and downloads have increased 13%and 10%, respectively.

In March, SourceForge.net launched an upgrade to its software map, offeringmore efficient browsing of the more than 117,000 Open Source projectshosted on the site. Following the debut of the new software map, queries tothe supporting search systems increased by more than 25%.

The new software map enables the community to sort projects by severaldifferent metrics, including activity level, ranking, and latest release.Registered users can access additional functionality including powerfulfiltering options plus the abilities to monitor individual projectsdirectly from the software map and suggest projects for re-categorization.

In February, SourceForge.net announced general availability of itsSubversion service. Subversion is an Open Source software configurationmanagement (SCM) system which provides directories, renames, file meta-dataand other compelling features. Since SourceForge.net launched itsSubversion offering, more than 2,500 projects have begun using the service.

More improvements are scheduled to go live this month, including a powerfulrestructure of how users can search for, and within, projects. Thisenhanced search functionality will allow for even more of the activeparticipation and interaction between members that has been the foundationfor SourceForge.net and Open Source. The site also plans to deploy a majorupgrade to the Mailman mailing list software which is used to power thesite's project mailing list.

SourceForge.net currently hosts 117,000 projects and has reached anall-time high of nearly 1.3 million registered users worldwide. This surgein growth has been fueled by the visibility of new projects posted byleading organizations such as NASA, Microsoft, Google, IBM, andSalesforce.com, and by the impact of Open Source on the mainstreamtechnology landscape as more enterprise IT managers adopt Open Sourcesolutions for their businesses.

SourceForge.net's unique value to the IT community is in providing a fullyintegrated resource for development teams to create Open Source projectsand applications; enabling IT professionals to participate in theenhancement of those projects; and giving IT professionals and technicalenthusiasts the ability to evaluate those projects and applications in atrusted, collaborative environment.

"By continuing to improve SourceForge.net's efficiency and functionality,we are giving our community the best environment in which to createprojects, interact with the community, and evaluate Open Sourceapplications for their organizations' IT infrastructure," said JaySeirmarco, general manager of SourceForge.net. "We're addressing theissues that our users have identified as major pain points. Our next focuswill be on improving SourceForge.net's file release system and our users'download experience."
