Pixxures, Inc., a leading provider of aerial mapping, direct digital image processing, and imagery Web services, announced that Portland Metro, Data Resource Center has signed an e-commerce service contract to host, deploy and broker Metro's imagery through Pixxures' Web Subscription Services and Online Image Store.
Pixxures has had an on-going relationship with Portland Metro Data Resource Center since 2004. Over the past two years, Pixxures has provided Metro with over 2,200 sq. miles of digital, color orthorectified imagery of urban and rural areas of the Portland Metro area, at 6-inch and 1-foot resolutions respectively. The imagery is currently being used by the twenty-five governments that shared in the cost. Uses of the imagery run the gamut from public works to urban planning.
Under the contract, Pixxures will host and broker the imagery for Metro through their Web Subscription Services. The imagery will be available for purchase on the Pixxures Online Image Store.
Pixxures Web Services technology dates back to 1999. "Many organizations make a substantial investment to acquire imagery, and this imagery is of value to groups outside of the organization. We are pleased to be able to host and deliver Portland's imagery through our online E-commerce based Web and Imagery Services," said President & CEO, Chuck Killpack.
"Pixxures' Web Services technology gives the Portland Regional Government the ability to potentially recover some costs by providing access to this imagery to groups outside of the initial funding organizations," added Killpack.
Metro is the directly elected regional government that serves more than 1.3 million residents in Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington counties, and the twenty-five cities in the Portland, Oregon and metropolitan area. "It is our goal to make the imagery available to a wide range of users. Metro does not have the resources to create and maintain the web infrastructure required for such a sophisticated e-commerce website. The Web enables sales to parties outside the Portland metropolitan area," said DRC Manager Richard Bolen of Metro. "This public/private venture with Pixxures broadens distribution and generates revenue for the purchase of future imagery," added Bolen.
