Erie, PA (PRWEB) July 31, 2006 -- The Central Pennsylvania (Harrisburg) chapter of the Institute of Packaging Professionals (IoPP) has announced its «Innovations in Packaging» symposium, to be held September 28, 2006, in New Cumberland, Pa., at the Holiday Inn. This one-day event will highlight RFID solutions, the debut of an advanced closure technology, and a host of other packaging innovations from leading companies, including:


•Colony Papers, Inc. (www.colonypapers.com) & Control Solutions, Inc. (www.consolut.com) -- These companies will partner to conduct an RFID solutions presentation spanning Simple Edge Solutions to Total Logistics Applications that meet current EPC and DOD regulations. Colony Papers, Inc., is a distributor of packaging material, automated packaging and product identification equipment; and Control Solutions, Inc., is a developer of supply chain management software.


•Erie Plastics (www.erieplastics.com) -- Representatives from Erie Plastics' Innovation Center will detail the process they use to develop innovative custom packaging that sells. Two case studies will be presented -- a past award winner and a potential future award winner that consists of a revolutionary closure technology for incorporating complex images into plastic for security and/or promotional activities (presented in a public forum for the first time).


•FedEx (www.fedex.com) -- FedEx will showcase a new, protective laptop box used for shipping laptop computers containing a 17» widescreen or below. A corrugated die cut box with perforated polyethylene foam cushioning allows users to easily customize the size of the foam to their specific laptop. FedEx's laptop box also includes a storage area for computer accessories.


•IoPP Consultants Council (www.packagingconsultants.org) -- Jim Pfister, Chairman of The Packaging Council of IoPP, will educate attendees on services and benefits available through the Packaging Consultants Council. The Council represents one of the greatest single stores of packaging knowledge and experience on the planet.


•Sealstrip Corporation (www.sealstrip.com) -- Sealstrip will feature Peel & Seal, an «easy reseal» packaging system yielding a pressure-sensitive-tape feature for candy, snack, salad and frozen food packaging. Freezer compatible and FDA compliant, Peel & Seal is an in-line system that can be fitted to existing flexible packaging machinery and operated at line speeds.


•Smurfit-Stone (www.smurfit.com) -- The Smurfit-Stone/Ultrashield corrugated pallet with vertical flute features Ultrashield Technology that was originally invented by motor racing champion, Frank Matich, and launched in Sydney, Australia. Smurfit-Stone is the first U.S. licensee for Ultrashield Technology, which holds strong promise for applications across numerous industry sectors.


•W.R. Sharples, Inc. (www.sharplesdie.com) -- A manufacturer of cutting dies for paperboard, corrugated materials, thermoforming and foam, W.R. Sharples will feature CAD design and CAM manufacturing technologies, and walk attendees through the process of moving from package design to die-cutting-based production. Company representatives will offer tips to improve production outcomes by showing how various designs result in different runs.


•York Label (www.yorklabel.com) -- York Label will showcase the York Label Multi-Line Validated Product Labeling System (MVPL), which uses a central PC to monitor and control up to eight in-line product labeling systems. The MVPL can include print/apply, inkjet printing, barcode scanning, vision inspection, RFID tag read/write and more. An LCD display and key panel in an industrial enclosure allow set up and provide real-time operator feedback.
