Intel Unveils Game-Changing Direction forBusiness PCs

Intel vPro Technology Delivers Strengthened Security, Cost Reduction andEnergy-Efficient Performance

The way the world views anduses business PCs is about to change with the introductionof Intel Corporation s new Intel vPro® technology, arevolutionary shift in desktop PC security and manageabilityalong with remarkable energy-saving computingperformance.

Businesses today are plagued by increasingeconomic and security threats such as malicious viruses, spyware and identity theft, while IT managers are driven toimprove processes and customer service models. Intel vProtechnology will offer businesses and IT a competitive edgewith breakthrough innovations and technologies to help getthe most out of resources and shrinking IT budgets.

Thecompany today outlined how Intel vPro technology willdeliver these benefits later this year through broadcollaborations with industry-leading software leaders and ITservice companies, and support from PC system manufacturersaround the world. Intel vPro brand is the newest addition toIntel s brand portfolio, and it s targeting businesses andIT customers first.

"Like Intel Centrino® mobiletechnology and Intel Viiv® technology, Intel vPro technologywill bring together world-class innovations throughout theprocessor, chipsets, networking and software," said WilliamA. Swope, Intel vice president and director of DigitalEnterprise Brand Management. "This technology significantlyadvances desktop PCs and will quite simply offer businessessecurity and manageability like never before -- all on one ofthe most powerful and energy-efficient PCs in themarket."

At the heart of the first Intel vPro-based PCswill be an Intel Core® microarchitecture dual-coreprocessor. This next-generation, 64-bit microarchitecturebestows significant gains in performance and reductions inpower-consumption, improving responsiveness andproductivity.

Intel vPro technology also includes thesecond-generation of Intel Active Management Technology(Intel AMT) and Intel Virtualisation Technology (Intel VT).Intel VT will be integrated into the dual-core processorwhile the next-generation Intel AMT will be integrated intothe new platform chipset. These hardware innovations, whencombined with industry-enabled software solutions, representthe superior manageability and strengthened security behindthe Intel vPro brand.

Offering businesses avenues toreduce PC support costs, Intel AMT helps manage, inventory, diagnose and repair PCs even when systems are turned off orhave crashed operating systems or hard drives. The secondgeneration of Intel AMT offers the ability to isolateinfected PCs before they impact the network and alert ITwhen threats are removed.

Further strengthening PCsecurity, Intel VT allows for separate independenthardware-based environments inside a single PC so ITmanagers can create a dedicated, tamper-resistant serviceenvironment -- or partition -- where particular tasks oractivities can run independently, invisible to and isolatedfrom PC users.

Demonstrating industry support for IntelvPro technology, Symantec*, an IT-trusted industry leader, today announced plans to work with Intel to build securitysolutions creating an isolated environment outside of themain PC operating system for the purpose of managingsecurity threats. This tamper-resistant virtualisedenvironment will deliver stronger control and protection inthe data infrastructure.

Support for Intel vProtechnology is also evident from new applications andsolutions that will be available over the next year fromglobal software vendors, including Adobe, Altiris, Avocent,Check Point, Cisco, Computer Associates, Hitachi JP1, HPOpenView, LANDesk, Lenovo, Lockdown Networks, Microsoft,Novell, Panorama SW, SAP, Skype, StarSoftComm, SyAMSoftware, Symantec and Zenith.

Leaders in the IT servicesindustry are also benefiting from the built-in manageabilitycapabilities of Intel vPro technology. Global technologyservices companies, including Atos Origin, EDS and SiemensAG have all achieved IT costs reductions through Intel AMTand have published papers outlining the time and cost savingbenefits of Intel AMT-based platforms.

Intel vPro-basedPCs will also include Intel s latest integrated graphics, providing performance for mainstream business applicationsand being capable of delivering the full array of graphicsinterface, features in Microsoft s upcoming Windows Vista*operating system.

Intel vPro technology will be part ofthe Intel Stable Image Platform programme, which offerspredictable transitions and promises that the Intel softwarestack and drivers will be available and unchanged for fivequarters from the time of the product launch. In its fourthyear, this programme allows businesses to qualify a systemonce, instead of being forced to requalify the system due tosoftware or hardware changes.

Intel vPro technology willusher in this new era for business computing starting in thesecond half of the year and will be identified by a new logoon PCs from major system manufacturers and channel resellersworldwide.
