En Pointe Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: ENPT) today announced the acceptance of two contracts to provide Common Criteria evidence development services to two separate information security manufacturers with a total value in excess of $300,000. Due to the sensitive nature of Common Criteria projects, the details and clients cannot be disclosed at this time. These contracts are being fulfilled through an En Pointe Security Services team recently acquired in connection with En Pointe's purchase acquisition in January 2006.
"Providing high-end engineering services for the U.S. Government's Common Criteria certification demands expertise that few companies can provide today," stated Bob Din, En Pointe's CEO. "We are optimistic that this area of our Services business will continue to grow at a rapid pace, and anticipate that En Pointe's Security Services practice that provides this service to product manufacturers will grow accordingly due to its unique level of certification expertise and solid track record."
Background on Common Criteria
Starting in June 1993, the sponsoring organizations of the existing U.S., Canadian, and European criteria started to align their separate standards into a single set of information technology security criteria known as the "Federal Criteria." As a result, in October 1998, the Common Criteria version 2.0 was officially accepted by all parties of the Mutual Recognition Agreement. As a result of the National Security Telecommunications and Information Systems Security Policy ("NSTISSP") #11, product vendors wishing to sell to the government are required to achieve a Common Criteria certification. The Department of Defense ("DoD") released DoD Directive 8005.1 which further instructed agencies that all DoD information systems are to comply with the NSTISSP #11 policy stated above. The most labor intensive element of attaining this critical certification, the evidence development stage, is where En Pointe specializes. Once the evidence is developed by En Pointe engineers, it then works with a select group of leading Common Criteria laboratories endorsed by the National Security Agency to perform final product testing and certification approval.
"En Pointe strives to provide manufacturers selling into the hotly competitive DoD and Federal market space a shorter time-to-certification, which leads to a quicker time-to-market," stated Doug Landoll, General Manager of En Pointe Security Services. "Speed-to-market provides a competitive advantage for the manufacturer, and using En Pointe provides immediate acquisition of top-level engineers experienced in evidence development, using our own proven methodology, at a competitive price and with a history of on-schedule performance."
Common Criteria certification is essential for any product vendor wanting to address the global federal marketplace requirement for technical validation. An example of one of En Pointe's previous evaluations can be found at: http://www.enpointe.com/security/common_criteria.htm
