Springboard Research, a leading innovator in the IT Market Research industry, today announced that the Bangladesh PC/Server market generated growth of 23.8% in Q1 2006 (Jan-Mar) as compared to the first quarter of the preceding year. A total of 45,074 PC-Server units were shipped in the first three months of the year. Continued healthy economic indicators and increased investment from the home and government segments helped accelerate PC/Server market growth. The government segment registered the highest growth with 30.7% expansion in annual terms.

HP led the market in Q1 with a 6.8% share of total shipments, followed by Dell and Lenovo. Local providers Daffodil and Flora placed favourably in the market with ranks of #4 and #5 and overall shipment market share of 3.8% and 3.3%, respectively.

From a usage perspective, large enterprises are currently the dominant segment of the market, contributing around 23.0% of the total PC/Server shipments. The large corporations -- particularly in banking and telecom -- are the key customers driving market growth. The government segment showed strong growth of 30.7% annually mainly due to the increased automation activities of local and national bodies along with improving economic indicators in the country. The SMB market represents a significant portion of shipments (33.9%) in Bangladesh but receives limited focus from IT vendors due to the substantial opportunities in the government and large enterprise sectors.

"Bangladesh is one of the key emerging countries in Southeast Asia. The increased investments from multinational IT vendors and IT promotion bodies in the country have accelerated the nation's IT market growth," noted Manish Bahl, Sr. Analyst, Springboard Research. "If the domestic political situation improves and stabilizes, the market could grow faster than expected. There are many unexplored opportunities in the Bangladesh PC market which are yet to be exploited"

"Despite of the domestic political uncertainties and the impact of higher oil prices, our outlook for Bangladesh remains relatively calm and positive. We have slightly increased our outlook for the Bangladesh PC/Server market due to the positive economic indicators in the country. We expect PC/Server shipments to increase approximately 22.1% in 2006 and then slow down the first half of 2007 mainly due to the election and political scenario," added Mr. Bahl.
