AirGATE Technologies, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of the X-Change Corporation (OTC BB: XCHC), has signed a national distribution agreement with Carinthian Tech Research (CTR) for the sale and support of surface acoustic wave (SAW)-based RFID systems manufactured by CTR. Based in Austria, CTR is currently setting new standards in rugged Radio Frequency Identification technology and remote access temperature sensors, focusing in particular on surface acoustic wave technology.
The benefits of SAW RFID tags over semiconductor-based transponder and backscatter tags are many: SAW RFID tags can withstand a very wide range of temperatures, provide long read ranges, work well in proximity to water and liquid, and work in the presence of radiation dosages that would render semiconductor devices useless. Companies in medical, automotive, oil and gas, and other manufacturing industries find SAW RFID useful for their applications in various harsh environments that normal RFID technologies cannot withstand.
